FSC (FOREST STEWARDSHIP COUNCIL – FOREST CONSERVATION COUNCIL CERTIFICATE
Forest products producers, distributors, users and non-governmental organizations working on environment and human rights that came together in California in 1990 started an initiative for responsible and sustainable forest management. FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), an international non-profit organization based on membership, emerged as an organization that adopts the principle of disseminating forest management systems and working together to prevent bad forest policies.
We can briefly summarize the aims and basic working style of the FSC with the following items;
FSC is a system of stakeholders that aims to manage all forests in the world in the most appropriate way and to spread these practices internationally.
To achieve this goal, international standards have been determined.
Different institutions have been authorized to issue certificates of conformity with the determined FSC standards.
Products obtained with the right forest management around the world are recognized by the FSC logo.
FSC serves to promote good forest management practices through marketing programs and information provision services.
In the past 13 years, more than 90 million hectares of land in 70 countries have been produced in accordance with FSC standards. FSC continues to work with bloody national organizations in 45 countries.
PURPOSE OF FSC
FSC; It is a stakeholder system that aims to encourage the most appropriate management of all forests in the world, to help forestry be carried out in accordance with sustainable forest management principles, to ensure the protection and permanent existence of forest areas, and to spread these practices internationally.
The purpose of forest management in accordance with environmental conditions; It is the production of timber and non-timber forest products without harming the biodiversity, productivity and ecological processes of the forest.
The purpose of forest management that provides social benefits; It is the establishment of systems in which local people and society will benefit from forest and forest products in the long run, but will also participate in long-term management plans that support the sustainable use of these resources.
The purpose of economically beneficial forest management; all kinds of interventions to forests are made with a profit motive so as not to disturb the balance of the ecosystem and the society in which it is located.
To achieve these goals, international standards have been determined.
WHAT IS FSC CERTIFICATE?
It shows that the FSC standard is applied in a company that produces with forest products and that this standard is applied as a result of auditing according to this standard.
The FSC does not directly audit organizations. It establishes standards, authorizes companies and supervises the implementation of this system.
